Terrifying Public Opinion

When common sense and knowledge disappear from the panorama of everyday life, the so-called “public opinion” takes its place as the infallible judge of everything that is done and said.

However, public opinion is neither wise nor reasonable, not because it couldn’t be, but because it doesn’t care. On the contrary, it is an attempt to manipulate public opinion, which makes it as changeable as fashion.

The reality of everyday life shows us a public opinion that oscillates between two eternal extremes, criticism and praise, swinging from one extreme to the other like an tireless pendulum. This pendulum instills fear, as praise signifies the possibility of existence and action, while criticism is like a raised tombstone that no one dares to look at anymore.

The judgment of public opinion is considered final to such an extent that the most desirable state is peace, an inertia in which no one loves or hates us, but no one even notices us.

However, criticism and praise are signs of action and Anonymity is the symbol of inaction. If we do nothing, we risk nothing, so we do not enter the game of extremes where we are either accepted or rejected. When we take action, we must accept logically and naturally that there are those who approve of what we are doing, but also those who disagree with our actions. We will not give up on our goal because of them because a person who is convinced of the importance of action does not care about criticism or praise, their only concern is to fulfill their duty regardless of the current public opinion on duties.

History shows us in its constant evolution that even human interests are subordinated to cycles. Sometimes duty and honor are more important than anything else, and sometimes these principles are overshadowed by hedonism and materialism that do not want a deep connection with the inner self, nor with history nor with God.

In order for the soul to understand and remember, man must become deaf to noise and whispers, to the roar of elephants and the silvery buzzing of a firefly.
The golden book. Rules, Tibet

Here comes the “public opinion” and its changing trends. However, there is a danger of getting lost in empty speculation while waiting for the applause that never comes, missing out on good opportunities for useful and effective action in life.

It is important to act, to determine oneself, to accept the risk of possible mistakes, and to put human energy into active service towards oneself, other people, and, in short, towards God.

If we are praised, good; if we are not praised, still good. If we are criticized, also good.

Just as the Sun never stops shining for a moment, nor the sea mourning the shores, but continue to act constantly with the same relentlessness, transcending mere opinions, so should the idealistic person fulfill their Destiny, constantly opening space for the voice of their old and deep consciousness, and not for changing passing opinions.
