Movement and Machines

Motion is one of the great laws of Nature. However, due to the duality that arises between pairs of opposites, inertia is also one of the laws.

Materialism, which has gained significance in recent centuries, has subtly introduced inertia into our way of life, using various excuses to justify it.

Human beings, so rich in practical means but so poor in spiritual consciousness, have chosen psychological and physical laziness and transferred their movement quota to various types of devices.

In the distant past, when way of life became tied to a specific place, people used animals – more or less domesticated – to help them with work or movement. They also used slaves to avoid hard work and exert themselves physically. Since then, without delving into the discussion of usefulness or morality, human beings and animals have adopted the same rhythm, although a whip was needed to make horses, mules or oxen pull carts faster.

Each body has its own limitations.

When that was no longer enough, machines were invented, initially simple, and later more complex, accompanied by a constant desire to replace human movement and accelerate it as much as possible, all in a fervent desire for increased production or simple comfort.

And so we humans began to enjoy inertia, while machines became obedient slaves who do not rebel, but who interestingly enough, ended up enslaving us in the end.

We all have various “robots” at our disposal, and as the years go by, they become more and more perfect, more similar to humans, more tailored to human desires. This similarity is so great that at any moment, a rebellion of machines can occur.

There is an interesting scene at the Moon Temple of the Mochica culture in Peru, where tools, weapons, and everyday objects turn against humans and attack them. Surely this will not happen as depicted in these pictures, nor as described in some novels, but the machines will… lead to increasing inertia so that we become prisoners while they become the real masters.

Without denying the importance of any type of machines and devices, which reveal the power of creative intelligence, we are concerned that this same intelligence is being reduced by the proliferation of machines.

A train can quickly transport us from one place to another, not to mention airplanes. But a mobile phone – in all its variants, or a computer screen – makes us immobile, tied to a chair… and paralyzes our mind. Buses and other vehicles compete in power and speed, while people are becoming lazier and almost forget to walk. A weight loss diet is more acceptable than moving our own body to burn what we have consumed. This is one of the absurdities of today’s world: many people die of hunger, while many others suffer from obesity.

Computers and phones have impoverished our imagination. In any case, today we only use it to discover how new programs function. which constantly appear on the market. Mastery of technique consumes our energy while the mind weakens and submits to thinking and writing in line with what different systems dictate.

There is no more dialogue. There is individual solitude alongside the solitude found on the other side of the screen. Living together is becoming increasingly difficult, as it is not the same to talk remotely as it is to look someone in the eye who is standing in front of us.

Vocabulary is increasingly impoverished and corrupted. We know that grammar rules are conventions, but we are losing one kind of convention to accept others more characteristic of children who use baby talk, abbreviations, and symbols that resemble poorly encoded language rather than indicators of developing intelligence.

What will happen to literary works in the future? Many are already getting rid of their books because everything is available on the internet… But what about the warmth of paper between our fingers, the book that is our trusted friend?

Such thoughts do not mean that we are against technological progress or the great benefit it brings. essentials. We do not call for the rejection of all devices that make our daily tasks easier, nor do we call for walking or sending smoke signals to friends. This is a call to remember the many movements we have lost and the inertia that has attacked us, making us unconsciously become slaves to the very tools we have created.

We must restore our inner freedom in order to be masters of our own actions, to use tools when we need them and not out of impulse; we must choose what we will do, rather than our actions becoming mere reflexes inevitably associated with our instincts.

We are humans, not machines; movement is something that belongs to us.
