Today, I saw the light… As always, the things I saw were not new, but they had the peculiarity of appearing before my eyes in new perspectives. It was as if I were seeing those things that are looked at, but not seen, for the first time…
The light hit me strongly, the light of the mighty and pure Sun that, with its shining at dawn, dispelled all shadows around it. Suddenly, the world took shape and color. Suddenly, like a child, I allow the existence of everything I hadn’t noticed before, simply because I hadn’t seen it.
Suddenly, the scene from Plato’s Cave that I had read and imagined multiple times came to life: I saw a man trapped in the darkness of the earthly matter; a man who gropes around him, barely discerning things because he cannot see them clearly; a man bound to that same darkness, unaware of his prison, a man who, nevertheless, feels the need for freedom and seeks to break the chains; a man who steps into the sunlight and is dazzled by that unknown and unimaginable light. That man Suddenly, the man stumbled upon reality; now he sees, now he knows.
All of that – and a multitude of other things – flowed through my being at the mere sight of the powerful rays of morning light. And from there, new questions emerged, that unquenchable human need for illumination.
If we could shed light on everything we see, everything we learn, everything we judge… If clarity were to form within us, as if the sun had risen in our soul, then many shadows would dissipate… Many mysteries would likely be clarified, while before, we lived in the darkness of doubt. Life would probably acquire a broader dimension, allowing us to see from above – clearly, like the sun – everything that happens to us.
When things are seen from above, they lose the dramatic nature of a brutal struggle for everyday life. When things are seen from above, with a little light, they don’t cease to exist, but are approached in a different, more logical way. When two dogs fight over the same bone, they do so at ground level, not realizing that a few meters away, there are other bones. you, the second option that makes their fight pointless. Wars, misunderstandings, conflicts, killings, tensions, hatred, vanity, ambition… bones for which so many people fight… Just a little further, just a little above, just with a breath of light, everything falls into place. Life has its bright and dark side, its happy and unhappy moments, but it needs to be seen in such a way, to understand it as an unstoppable law and, accordingly, to learn to walk on the side marked with clarity and joy.
The more we speculate in the shadow, the fewer opportunities we have to escape that trap, because like the cave person, we waste our time and energy on a dark fight that leaves us no moment to notice the way out. True, sometimes, like cave people, we have to fight in the dark to break the chains of ignorance; but then we do it with all our strength directed towards the goal of later liberation. It is no longer a fight for the sake of fighting, because our new awareness shows us new paths.
The more we immerse ourselves in the… Words can deceive us and false promises, lies and cowardice will make us know less about the light that illuminates. Deceptive glimmers will make us believe in the illusion that there is no other possible light.
However, besides words, there are also actions; besides empty knowledge, there is active wisdom that enables us to live daily what we have managed to understand. Besides false promises, there is authentic hope. Besides cowardice, there is also faith in the future and in human capacities to conquer it.
We are tired of torches that burn little and weakly; weak lights that try to illuminate our steps; we are tired of empty fires, sparks that last only one day, deceptive lights that pretend to imitate sunlight. We know that every day dawns in front of our windows; we know that the Sun is a reality above the clouds and storms. We just need to open our windows, leave our own cave, open our eyes blinded by natural light and start seeing our world, the world in which we need to live. To sail. Connected, yes, but for the hope of that new and better world that awaits us a little further, on the same horizon where dawn begins.
