International Mother Earth Day

The Earth Day, observed by millions of people every April 22nd since 1970, aims to raise awareness and respect for the planet Earth and life on it. This is the largest organized environmental campaign to date, with the slogan “One Billion Acts of Green” emphasizing the importance of each individual’s personal contribution. Its goal is to record one billion small acts of nature and environmental conservation by the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro in 2012. It is little known and not universally accepted by the public, but the United Nations changed the name of Earth Day to International Mother Earth Day on April 22, 2009, seeking to promote the idea that Earth and its ecosystems are our home. The UN General Assembly used the term “Mother Earth” with the explanation that it is widely accepted among many cultures and traditions. The General Assembly, on the same occasion, also we take towards protecting and respecting Mother Earth’s rights can make a big difference in preserving the planet as our home. The declaration emphasizes the need to address the significant pollution and degradation of the planet caused by human action. It also highlights the importance of recognizing and respecting the rights of Mother Earth, including the right to life for plant and animal species, mountains, rivers, and lakes, to prevent their destruction due to irresponsible human behavior. According to the document, we, as humans, must acknowledge Mother Earth and other living beings’ right to existence and understand that our freedom ends where nature’s destruction and extinction begin. The draft declaration states that Mother Earth has the right to purity for her own sake, not just for the sustainability of human development, and the right to harmony and balance with all beings and between all beings. Mother Earth has the right to be recognized as part of a system in which all living beings are interdependent. We support the United Nations’ initiative, as conveyed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Physical Planning and Construction on their website, as it aligns with our vision of taking small steps towards protecting our planet. Every day, millions of people around the world take part in and make a significant collective contribution. We hereby invite all interested individuals to actively get involved and register their activities through the website www.earthday.org.
