They say that philosophy is impractical and serves no purpose. However, we will respond to that: big questions, big uncertainties… where can we find answers to them?
What do we do with what suddenly overwhelms us when we find ourselves alone with ourselves: why life, why death, why pain, why do we age, why do things happen to us? Why does suffering exist and why is it possible to go from suffering to joy and from joy to suffering? What is it that carries us like the wind from one thing to another? Why do we fear, why do we doubt…?
When these questions arise, we will either answer them or constantly live in anxiety, because by not wanting to see the most important thing, we will draw a curtain in front of our own eyes.
When there are uncertainties, it is best to ask questions. When Socrates said, “I know that I know nothing,” he did not say that to satisfy himself with not knowing anything. That was the recognition of ignorance and the starting point: “I want to know more because I need more.” Despite the fact that Through the centuries, man will continue to ask the same questions. All it takes is for us to need one answer, and philosophy becomes useful, practical, and necessary.
Philosophy is a great teacher, it instructs us. We may not become wise, but at least we will fear and doubt less than before. We won’t grasp the Ultimate Truth, but we will start feeling a certain security.
Good education shapes and transforms. It is like internal alchemy: we cannot be the same before and after learning. If we are the same, it means we have not learned anything – we have memorized a lot, but we know nothing. However, formative education, education that transforms, is not something that can be forced upon people; human personality must not be deformed.
Education should free us from many attachments and deficiencies, from many insecurities and fears. When a person manages to free themselves from this burden, they will feel liberated. Formative education should help us in this, we need to learn how to learn. i. We need to learn through practice, as we have surrendered to a sedentary lifestyle. Too much. We lack experience. We need to become genuine, ourselves.
