Waiting for the raft…

There was a man who ardently desired to learn levitation.

He secluded himself in the forest for forty years, practiced diligently, and truly learned.

One day, by the riverbank, he saw a teacher surrounded by students waiting for a ferryman to cross to the other side. Recognizing the man as a great teacher, he swiftly levitated to him and asked what they were doing. The teacher told him he was answering the students’ questions while waiting for transport to the other side. The first man boasted that he didn’t need to wait for the ferryman because he had practiced diligently for forty years and learned to levitate. The teacher smiled and said:

“In that case, it will still be quicker to wait for the ferryman, and I would rather spend that time talking to my students…”

From Indian tradition.
